Community Park Build at 7th St.

April 26, 27 and 28th, 2019

We here at JDCC Parks and Rec are excited to announce that we have a date picked to start the building of our new park here at the 7th St. Park Complex. This is a community build that we can all stand back and be proud of once completed. It includes two new play structures, one is designed for ages 0-5 years old and the other structure is for ages 5 and up. There will be slides, swings, play structures and other amenities that our youth can enjoy for many years to come. Phase one of the park is the building of the play structures. Phase two will be installing the rubber surface that will be poured all around the structures after the building of the structures is complete (this should happen right after the structures are complete but is weather and temperature dependent as it calls for around the clock temps of 40 degrees or higher). Our plan is to have the rubber surface poured in the same week the structures are complete. Phase three of the community build will also include a splash pad where everyone can cool off during the hot summer days here in Grant County as well as various exercise equipment/stations being installed all along our paved walking path. There will also be tables, park benches, fencing, etc. put in and around the park as we go along. All of this will be located on the east side of the park right next to the skate park.

Here is what we will need from YOU...…

*Two "Leaders". This is a person that can read drawings and organize paperwork, not someone who wants to build. We need someone here that is organized! Separate the correct parts and make sure the volunteers stay on task and with the right drawings for the task. Its good to have someone just in charge of fasteners so each group gets the correct pieces they need. These "leaders" will report to and work with David Gaston (David is who will be our build "Superintendent" who will oversee the entire project). David will oversee the "leaders" and spend much of his time running back and forth between the two playgrounds. Aaron Lieuallen has already stepped up as one of our "Leaders" so we will be looking for just one more.

*Next: We will need a small "Refreshment Team". It is always nice to have a fresh coffee and pastries in the mornings. Often pizza or other group lunches are provided for a lunch break and this "refreshment team" would be in charge of this. We believe a well fed and caffeinated worker tends to be a harder worker! This will be a team of 5-10 people.

*Next is: "The Muscle". This is the largest group we will be looking for. We can handle 15-30 people here that want to build. This will include lots of heavy work such as digging holes and hoisting slide parts. This group can fluctuate in size throughout the day. If a volunteer can only show up for a few hours but spends that time digging holes or lifting heavy pieces, it is a very valuable few hours. Some of the "Muscle" will need to be there all day to help guide other team members.

*Lastly: This is very important to know.....the building site is truly an adults-only place. We can definitely handle teenagers on the site, but there will be a LOT of heavy equipment, power tools, and other potentially dangerous situations for kids. Younger children tend to get overly excited to play on the equipment as it is being built which can create a real hazard. They will have their time on the play structures once they are all finished!

There is limited spots for volunteers so we are asking that anyone who would like to be a part of the build come down to the JDCC Parks and Recreation office at 845 1/2 NW Bridge St. between the hours of 8:30 am - 12:30 pm or you can call the office at 541-575-0110. You can sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 days if you'd like. When you sign up with us just let us know what day(s) you're available. Let's get these spots filled ASAP so we can be ready to go before the week of the build!
